Mortgage Lifter (heirloom slicer)

In the 1940's, Radiator Charlie sold his Mortgage Lifter tomato plants for $1 each. The variety gained in popularity and gardeners came from as far away as 200 miles to buy his seedlings. Charlie was able to pay off his $6,000 home loan in six years, hence the name Mortgage Lifter.
Mortgage Lifter hold a place in my heart. My Grandpa Larry (same grandpa that started the "Larry's Large Red Cherry" Tomato) grew Mortgage Lifter as a staple on his farm. We love growing them. These tomatoes are what we mainly use for canning tomatoes.
This pink tomato with few seeds and low acid, for those that love tomatoes, but they don't love you. It is a drought-tolerant heirloom variety that produces extremely heavy yields of large. Tomatoes are usually between 16 and 24 ounces, but some have reached 4 pounds!
Mortgage Lifters are similar to Brandywine in color, flavor, and size. Although they have a little tangier in flavor than Brandywine. Mortgage lifters are juicy making it perfect for canning tomato juice. If canning Mortgage Lifters for sauce or salsas, pair them with Amish Paste or San Marzano to make a thicker sauce and cut down on cooking time.
